The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications declared earlier this month that after the deadline of November 30, 2022, it is prepared to deactivate all unregistered SIM cards.

By merely finishing the registration process, it was said that holders of Ghana cards might prevent this difficulty (the deactivation of SIM).

The telco chamber underlined that only subscribers who have finished stage 1 [linkage to Ghana Card] but have not yet finished stage 2 [biometric capture] of the SIM registration will have their SIM cards disabled in a most recent press statement seen by GhanaWeb Business.

Six services that customers won’t be able to use once their SIM cards are blocked were also highlighted by The Chambers.

The services to be blocked are listed below.

• Voice

• Data (Mobile Phones, Mifis, other data delivering gadgets) (Mobile Phones, Mifis, other data providing devices)

• SMS (incoming and outgoing) (incoming and outgoing)

• USSD

• Mobile payment options

• Emergency assistance

However, the Chamber urged all subscribers who had already obtained Ghana cards but hadn’t yet finished stage 2 (biometric capture) to do so as soon as possible before the close of business on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

A total of 20,892,970 subscribers have finished the SIM card registration process as of this point.
