John Dramani Mahama, a former president, has praised Saltpond for its contribution to the nation’s political advancement.
He claimed that Saltpond had the unique distinction of being the only town where the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP), two significant political parties, were founded before the country’s independence.

Last Saturday, Mr. Mahama gave a speech at the Odambea Festival in Saltpond, in the Central Region.

In the midst of a deluge, the populace at the durbar grounds gave the former President a hearty greeting.

Job creation

Mr Mahama called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to create jobs for the teeming youth in the country.

He claimed that many young people were losing hope, which was bad news for the nation’s democracy.

He provided an undisclosed sum of funding for the festival.

Festival of Odambe

The Nkusukum Traditional Area’s chiefs and residents celebrate the annual Odambea Festival at Saltpond in the Central Region, generally in the month of August. The residents of Anomabo also commemorate “Odambea,” which in their language is a fortified link.

The celebration, which honors the migration of the Nkusukum people from Techiman in the Bono East region to their current settlement, also includes recreations of the people’s traditional ways of life.

Prior to it, the former president joined Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, the Paramount Chief of Abeadze Dominase, in honoring both the Ahobaa Kesee Festival and his 25th anniversary as a chief.

Mr. Mahama recalled the continual assistance and support he received from the supreme chief.

According to sources, the former president gave the chiefs and residents of the Abeadze Dominase hamlet an undisclosed sum in support of the event.
