Edinson Cavani, a seasoned Uruguayan striker, has made a daring statement against Daniel Siebert, the referee for the 2022 World Cup match between Ghana and Uruguay.

Cavani asks that Siebert be punished, possibly with incarceration, for his actions during the contest that prevented them from advancing to the round of 16.

Uruguay won the game, which took place in December 2022, by a score of 2-0. However, various decisions made by the referee during the game infuriated and disappointed both Cavani and his teammates.

During the game, the Uruguayan national team felt that they should have received at least one penalty, but Siebert disregarded their requests.

With four points each, an equal amount of goals scored and conceded, and Uruguay ultimately winning on goals scored, the South Americans needed a goal to advance ahead of South Korea.

Cavani stated in an interview with El Larguero concerning the refereeing, “If they sanction me for having hit the VAR, the referee should have to be thrown in prison [for his blunders]” (via El Pais).

There have been mistakes that all of the officials in the background shouldn’t have made given the VAR and the cameras.

“It is true that we must behave, but we are human, and often it happens on the job when you live with passion and work hard, and you have to experience situations like this, which is not the first time we have to deal with it,” he said in his conclusion.

And in that case, the reactions might be a little easier to excuse than to justify.
