In order to make up for the loss, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) announced that qualified relatives of police officers killed in the line of duty would be hired into the service.
The IGP claims that the action is intended to motivate officers to perform at their highest level.
According to Newsghana, the IGP stated at a public lecture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, “We have put new measures in place to ensure that a relative of the deceased officer who is qualified is recruited into the service as part of efforts to urge our officers to do their best in protecting the public” (KNUST).
Speaking on the topic “The changing face of policing in Ghana: expectations and the role of the university community,” he stated that, despite the difficulties they encounter, he wants to make the police the most effective institution in the nation.
He denied claims that the Police are the most corrupt organization in the nation, pointing out it does not mean there aren’t any bad apples.
The IGP declared that in order to make the police department one of the top organizations in the nation, bad people will be expelled from it.
