Dr. Kwaku Afriyie has been confirmed as the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency’s Member of Parliament by the Sefwi Wiawso High Court, presided over by His Lordship Justice Kwame Amoako.

Paul Evans Aidoo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the parliamentary seat in the 2020 general election, petitioned the Sefwi Wiawso High Court to contest the election results tallied by the Electoral Commission.

On January 6, 2021, Paul Evans Aidoo, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, and the NDC petitioned the High Court for a decision voiding the results of the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency parliamentary election in December 2020 and prohibiting Dr. Kwaku Afriyie from claiming to be the constituency’s MP-elect.

Three years after the election, the court determined that the petitioner’s claims lack validity after hearing the accounts of all parties, including the petitioner Paul Evans Aidoo, the defendants Dr. Kwaku Afriyie of the NPP, and the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Aidoo claimed that the results had not been tallied and that a ballot box from the Sefwi Asawinso Community Center 2 polling place had been stolen by some unidentified thugs as it was being taken to the Wiawso collation center, but he was unable to back up his claims with any proof.

The evidence presented to the court by the presiding judge, His Lordship Justice Kwame Amoako, contained contradictions and inconsistencies.

As a result, he confirmed Dr. Kwaku Afriyie as the legitimate MP for the Sefwi Wiawso constituency.
