It has been suggested that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, learn from Ken Ofori-Atta, the minister of finance, about how to alter an underperforming team.
The way the minister immediately changed the legal team that defended him during the recent vote of censure proceedings before an ad hoc committee of parliament, according to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, should be enough for the president to learn from.
He explained that Ken Ofori-Atta swiftly replaced his legal team just after the first day when he realized how tense the process was, and that is exactly what President Nana Akufo-Addo need to do when appointing a new minister.
“In my opinion, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo might benefit greatly from studying his cousin, the finance minister.
“The finance minister arrived before us on the first day with his lawyer, Gabby Otchere-Darko, but when he returned on the third day, he had immediately changed him because he realized that the current state of affairs—how volatile and bumpy it was—did not call for that kind of counsel (sic).
“President Akufo-Addo ought to take a page from his cousin, the finance minister, and replace him.
He swiftly changed him because he understands his job is on the line, just as he did when he realized the legal team led by Gabby Otchere-Darko on day one was a fiasco.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker added that as the issues at hand affect the lives of all Ghanaians, the president should be interested in following the lead of his minister, who is also his cousin.
We are now discussing people’s lives, livelihoods, businesses, pensions, and life savings, and you don’t want to take advice from your cousin, the finance minister, who has already paved the way for you? He said, “
The scheduled vote of censure for Thursday, December 8, 2022, ultimately failed since the Minority was unable to gather the required number of votes after its Majority counterparts staged a walkout.
